CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

Traditional technologies are not efficient enough to meet Europe’s 2050 climate neutrality target.Green innovation is needed to change our production and consumption patterns to reduce environmental pressures and use resources more efficiently.

Despite the continued growth in demand for environmental technologies, users are cautious in their purchases. A major barrier to the market uptake of green innovations is the fact that many people switch after the proven success of new technologies.

REQUEST

To overcome this problem, tools are needed to provide adequate and reliable evidence on the performance of green innovations and to make the benefits of their use evident to users and other stakeholders. The success of these tools will largely depend on their acceptance and recognition in the EU and in domestic markets.

Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) is one such tool.

The ETV is a voluntary environmental verification scheme that provides technology providers, purchasers, regulators, public authorities, investors and support organisations with independent and reliable evidence of the performance and benefits of innovative environmental technologies.

The validation scheme was introduced by the European Commission under a European Programme.

ANSWER

The objective of the LIFEproETV project is to make the UETV Europe’s leading validation scheme for innovative environmental technologies. The aim of the collaboration is to achieve strong market acceptance and recognition through the following steps:

  • stakeholder engagement,
  • establishing an established and widely accessible ETV knowledge base,
  • capacity and capability building,
  • achieving openness to innovative technologies,
  • awareness raising and promotion.

IMPLEMENTATION IN 7 STEPS

  1. THE POTENTIAL OF ET TO PROMOTE MARKET READINESS

Examine the barriers and strategic leverage points for market take-up of ETV:

  • ETV awareness
  • Similarities and differences between ETV and other certification schemes
  • Similarities and similarities between ETV and other platforms
  • Market and regulatory factors
  • ETV communication gaps
  • Comparison of EU ETV programmes with successful national and global ETV programmes.

2. ETV STAKEHOLDER NETWORKING

Exploring the potential of ETV and planning for market recognition and acceptance:

  • Building a community of ETV stakeholders,
  • Interact with the ETV community through project events and social media

3. OPENNESS TO INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGIES FOR THE PRESENTATION OF ETV

Developing and promoting:

  • Policy reports to policy makers on how ETV can be integrated into a broader framework to support innovation and SMEs. Develop closer links with environmental regulation and policies in the EU and its Member States.
  • Guidance on the use of ETV in public procurement to make green public procurement a market catalyst for ETV.

4. SETTING UP A NETWORK OF ERA KNOWLEDGE CENTRES

Making information on ETV available in a format most useful to SMEs:

  • Involve EU and national business development organisations in the creation of the network of UTP Knowledge Centres.
  • Provide members of the network with relevant information and technical material on the UTP

5. ESTABLISH AND LAUNCH AN ERA KNOWLEDGE PLATFORM

Provide a digital environment to meet the information needs of the different ETV value chains, so that they can use the tool effectively by:

  • ETV information material collection
  • ETV guide for technology providers
  • On-line tool to allow a quick check that the ETV candidate technology meets the requirements

6. SKILLS AND CAPACITY BUILDING

Broadening the reach of ETV in Europe:

  • Contacting organisations interested in becoming a certification and accreditation body.
  • Online mentoring on how to prepare for accreditation and prepare an appropriate accreditation plan.

7. RAISING AWARENESS AND PROMOTING ERA

Awareness raising and promotion steps:

  • Develop a plan to achieve broad market acceptance and recognition of ETV.
  • Design a promotion campaign for the ETV model.
  • Launch of 6 promotional campaigns in Poland, Italy, Spain, France, Slovenia and Hungary.
  • Development of ETV promotional guidelines based on the experience of the campaigns to further promote ETV.
