The two main pillars of the Hungarian National Bank’s environmental strategy are:
– the environmentally focused development of the buildings necessary for its operations,
– the reduction of the environmental impact of the cash supply chain.
This project aligns with the MNB’s long-term strategy, in which we identify the links in the cash supply chain, assess the resource consumption and environmental impact associated with each, and standardize these metrics by calculating their carbon footprints. The goal is to develop environmental indicators for the cash supply chain as a whole, with a particular focus on CO2 emissions. We began this joint effort in September 2017 with cash logistics, and by the end of March 2018, we will calculate the CO2 equivalent per unit of cash—the cash carbon footprint.
